Background and context

Istituto Oikos is an Italian NGO that works in the field of environmental and sustainable development in

Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. Istituto Oikos operates and in Mozambique since 2012 with programs of conservation and natural resource management.

Duties and Accountabilities

Istituto Oikos is seeking to recruit a Junior Project Manager for its program in Ibo District, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique. The Junior Project Manager will be the responsible for the implementation of the project “Protection of Environment and Sustainable livelihood for fisheries Communities of Quirimbas National Park” implemented in North Mozambique which aims at promoting the conservation and management of Quirimbas National Park coastal natural resources and sustainable socio-economic opportunities of its coastal communities. He/She will be in charge of the planning, implementation, monitoring and supervision of all project activities in conformity with the project document and the donor’s procedures. The JPM will work under the supervision of the Ibo Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

· Coordinate project activities, facilitate and maintain effective communication with the partners, relevant actors and significant project stakeholders;

· Provide technical support for project activities, among others:

o Establishment of locally managed marine areas;

o Organization of training sessions, environmental awareness and education activities for local communities;

o Technical support and guidance to park staff and local actors in data collection, entry & analysis of Patrolling & Environmental Data;

· Support the Ibo Coordinator and scientific supervisors in the definition of possible research programs/priorities with local and/or international universities;

· Organize and coordinate the missions of international experts, local consultants and donor officers;

· Manage, in collaboration with the Country Administrator, the project financial resources in compliance with Oikos’ internal procedures and donor’s procedures;

· Compile technical progress reports

Qualifications

· Degree in Natural Resources Management, Marine biology or ecology, Conservation or related field;

· Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: fisheries, natural resources management, protected areas and/or habitat management (including community based conservation), wildlife conservation;

· Experience working in developing countries, understanding of the institutional and political context and exposure to the local challenges;

• Portuguese verbal and written communication skills

• A strong sense of team work and ability to work independently with limited supervision.

· Ability to thrive in multicultural living and working environment with people of diverse cultures, value systems, perspectives and levels of education, and to manage staff in these contexts.

· Willingness to live and work in a remote isolated area, with limited access to Internet.

Duty stations

Ibo (Quirimbas National Park) – Cabo Delgado Provice, Mozambique.

Remuneration

Annual gross salary range 20.000-25.000 Euro depending on experience and qualifications
