Duties and Accountabilities
Istituto Oikos is seeking to recruit Biodiversity Experts for its programs in Myanmar and Mozambique. The Biodiversity Expert will be part of a dynamic team of biodiversity specialists (based in Italy) and report to the Project Manager based in the country of destination. The expert will play an essential role in the implementation of field activities in collaboration with park authorities and local communities. The Biodiversity Expert will also provide technical expertise on a variety of environmental issues related to environmental monitoring, natural resources management, fishery. and payment for ecosystem services.
Responsibilities
1)Park management
· Provide technical support and training to park staff on environmental monitoring activities and protocols (mainly related to avifauna, mammals, sea turtles, mangroves, fish stocks) in close consultation with international and local experts/institutions.
· Provide support and guidance to park staff in the implementation of regular marine and terrestrial patrolling activities within the Park (applying SMART software).
· Provide technical support and guidance to park staff in data collection, entry & analysis of Patrolling & Environmental Data.
· Facilitate and maintain effective communication with the Government counterparts and local partners, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), civil society, the private sector as well as specialized international organizations.
2)Conservation/Education/Research
· Promote and facilitate community involvement in conservation supporting the creation of a local wildlife conservation group
· Promote and facilitate community involvement in marine resources and fish stocks conservation supporting the establishment of locally managed marine areas and supporting fishermen groups (Mozambique)Support the definition of small conservation initiatives inside the park in collaboration with local groups and park staff.
· Organize training sessions, environmental awareness and education activities for local communities.
· Support the Project Manager and scientific supervisors in the definition of possible research programs/priorities with local and/or international universities.
Qualifications
· Advanced degree in Natural Resources Management, Marine biology or ecology, Conservation or related field.
· A minimum of 3 years of full-time work in biodiversity conservation.
· Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: natural resources management, protected areas and/or habitat management (including community based conservation), wildlife conservation
· Experience working in developing countries, understanding of the institutional and political context and exposure to the local challenges.
• Strong English verbal and written communication skills required (for Myanmar)
• Portuguese verbal and written communication skills is an added value(for Mozambique[pm1] )
• A strong sense of team work and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
· Ability to thrive in multicultural living and working environment with people of diverse cultures, value systems, perspectives and levels of education, and to manage staff in these contexts.
· Willingness to live and work in a remote isolated area, with limited access to Internet.

Lampi Marine National Park - Myeik archipelago, Tanintharyi Region, Myanmar
Quirimbas National Park – Cabo Delgado Provice, Mozambique.
Remuneration
Annual gross salary range 25.000-30.000 Euro depending on experience and qualifications, health insurance, 1 return international flight.
