NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs
Ethiopia now hosts about 700,000 refugees from Somalia, Eretria, South Sudan, North Sudan, and refugees from several other countries, including Kenya, Djibouti, DRC, Yemen, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda. NRC Ethiopia through its WASH, Shelter, Food Security and Education programmes, supports displaced populations in Dollo Ado, Shire, Assosa, Gambella, Jijiga and in Addis Ababa.

The Area Manager is the overall lead person in the area and oversees both programme and operational issues.

Job description
- Overall management of the Core Competencies activities, field offices and staff within the specific area, including the Area Management Team (AMT)
- Development and execution of the strategy for the area
- Adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
- Emergency response capacity in the area
- Safety and security of staff
- Area level advocacy
- External representation, coordination and relationship building
- Responsible for shared resource allocation
- Implementation of policies and procedures
- Learning, training and development of staff
Qualifications
- Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
- Ability and willingness to work and live under difficult circumstances
- Experience in administration and personnel management
Education field
- Administration / Organisation / Management
- Education title: Relevant experience and/or high education, preferably in management, social sciences or international development
Education level
- College / University, Master / Phd grade
Personal qualities
- Knowledge of the political situation in the region
- Knowledge of UN system and experience with field level coordination with UN organizations, INGOs, donors and authorities
- Significant understanding of complex emergencies and crisis contexts
- Communication, interpersonal, representation and negotiation skills
- Capacity building skills
