GAIN has had a presence in Mozambique since 2010 and established its Country Office in 2013. Due to the recent PCA (Partner Cooperation Agreement) with UNICEF, the Universal Salt Iodization program (USI) will focus its efforts in Mozambique.
Iodine deficiency is the single most important cause of brain damage in the world. Universal iodization of salt (USI) is widely recognized as the most cost-effective measure to prevent iodine deficiency and is credited for the virtual elimination of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) in many countries.
The long term goal of the USI program is to accelerate efforts towards sustainable reduction of iodine deficiency (ID) as a public health problem. In order to achieve this long term goal in Mozambique, this one year project will focus on creating an enabling environment for increasing availability and quality iodized salt in the market.
The ideal candidate will have good experience in supporting and developing international or national projects. Experience in managing or co-ordinating a salt project is desirable. Further, the ideal candidate must possess sound knowledge on the food production environment in Mozambique and must have experience of collaborating with private sector and governmental stakeholders in previous roles. Fluency in English and Portuguese is essential.
