Deputy Chief of Party, Technical, Ethiopia
We are currently seeking a Deputy Chief of Party Technical for an anticipated multiyear, USAID-funded Feed the Future project in Ethiopia that will focus on agricultural development, agribusiness and market Development. This project will work to sustainably reduce poverty and hunger by improving the productivity and competitiveness of value chains that offer jobs and income opportunities for rural households.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Chief of Party in attaining project goals and objectives by providing technical advice and direction when appropriate.
  • Oversee day-to-day planning, design and operations of project and technical teams to ensure effective project implementation.
  • Responsible for ensuring integration and synergies across project activities.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of reports and documents to USAID, national governments, ACDI/VOCA headquarters and other partner organizations.
  • Work closely with project partners and beneficiaries as well as private sector associations in the region to provide technical and organizational assistance.
  • Oversee and provide technical guidance to the project’s technical directors.
  • Works with the technical advisors and staff to help develop the value chain strategy and implement it.
  • Represent the activity to all counterparts
  • Preparation or supervision of work plans and technical reports
  • Recommendation and evaluation of proposed staff

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in agribusiness, economics, trade, business, agronomy or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in international development, agriculture, livestock management, nutrition, economics or related field of study.
  • Ten years of experience managing large (at least $20 million), complex agricultural development programs with a private sector/ multi-value chain development focus, preferably within Africa.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with host-country government officials, international donors, and private sector stakeholders.
  • Significant experience in policy and institutional development and coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Extensive management experience and strong leadership and communication skills required.
  • Work experience in Ethiopia and/or other East African countries preferred.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills with evidence of ability to productively interact with a wide range and levels of organizations (government, private sector, NGOs, research institutions).
  • Demonstrated ability to be collaborative across projects, flexible and creative.
  • Fluency in English.
