CARE seeks a Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) for an anticipated USAID-funded Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project in Ethiopia.
This position is subject to project award and funding. International relocation and allowances may be available.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Chief of Party (COP) in project oversight, including technical, administrative, operational, and logistical management of the project.
- In the absence of COP, DCOP will be responsible for leading the implementation of the project.
- Provide technical assistance for the regional coordinators and advisors to make sure the planned activities under the first three components are implemented as per the required standards, policies and best practices available.
- Responsible for overseeing the M&E functions for timely and quality reporting of the project’s results and documenting best practices and lessons learned to share with the Government of Ethiopia and development partners to influence policy and practice at a wider scale.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in integrated water resources management, environmental sanitation, water development/management, natural resources management, or related field.
- At least eight years of progressively responsible managerial work experience implementing WASH or productive water use projects in the horn of Africa.
- Strong communication, both oral and written, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop excellent relations with implementation partners and counterparts.
- Experience in applying a participatory approach; working with the private sector and financial institutions on water development activities is an added advantage.
- Prior experience in managing USAID-funded grants.
- Previous experience in Ethiopia is required.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Amharic is a plus.
