Mozambique: Senior reading specialist

Chemonics seeks a senior reading specialist for a five-year, USAID Early Grade Reading project in Mozambique. The project aims to help improve the reading abilities of students in Grades 1 through 4 nationwide by enhancing reading instruction, increasing parental and community engagement in support of student reading, and creating safe learning environments for reading and institute pathways to sustainability. Individuals authorized to work in Mozambique are highly encouraged to apply. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Qualifications:

  • ​Master's degree in education with a specialty in early grade reading or another pedagogically oriented specialty
  • Minimum four years of experience working to improve evidence-based early grade reading programming focused on rural, ethno-linguistic underserved populations
  • Minimum four additional years of experience improving education quality in developing countries
  • Five years of experience in sub-Saharan Africa or Mozambique
  • Experience with the development and implementation of evidence-based early grade reading materials, preferably in local languages
  • ​Experience developing training programs, classroom monitoring protocols, and tests and assessments, including early grade reading assessments
  • Experience with supporting family/community engagement and civil society-based monitoring for reading outcomes​
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Portuguese required; working knowledge of a Mozambican language or other Bantu language preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
