1. Overall Purpose/Broad Function:
In line with NI’s strategic objectives in Africa and Ethiopia, contribute to improved maternal and child health and nutrition in Ethiopia by supporting the MOH at all levels in the implementation MNHN and FF programs.
2. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
3.1 Project Identification and Design
· Support the SPO to ensure that the landscape analysis for MNHN and FF interventions are regularly updated and available for the designing of project plans and proposals.
3.2 Project Implementation and Management
· Support the SPO to develop annual contracting and work plans and budgets for MNHN and food fortification (staple food and salt iodization) interventions in line with approved project’s design and using approved GIC tools.
· Ensure that annual contracting and work plan activities for FF and MNHN are implemented as scheduled and per the approved budgets.
· Carry out site monitoring visits to ensure that implementing partners are implementing project activities (FF and MNHN) according to agreed strategy and contractual commitments.
· Ensure data monitoring plans for FF and MNHN are timely implemented, project monitoring data is collected and the data workbooks are regularly updated.
· Identify bottlenecks, gaps and good practices in Collaborative Quality Improvement (CQI) approaches at zonal, woreda and PHCU levels and provide guidance to TAs and health management teams for improvement as necessary
· Support the SPO to develop quality monthly, quarterly and annual performance monitoring (both technical and financial) reports for MNHN and food fortification (Staple food and salt iodization) projects and ensure challenges are identified and recommended corrective actions are timely implemented.
· Prepare and submit technical and financial project reports to the SPO for further review and approval
· Monitor budget utilization of FF and MNHN using NI’s guidelines and tools such as Contracting database (CDB).
· Prepare documentation for meetings and conference calls, taking detailed notes on decisions and action points from such meetings and ensuring follow up of same.
· Support the implementing partners with the procurement of commodities, if needed.
3.3 External Relations
· Build and maintain good collaborative relations with MoH, other government agencies, UN agencies, and NGOs, as appropriate to promote information sharing and effective coordination of effort to improve and sustain effective and efficient programs.
· Represent NI at regional or subnational level in coordination with the SPO.
· Keep up to date with developments in MNHN and micronutrient supplementation issues.
· Support the SPO and A and C team at region with gathering of relevant information for proposal writing to mobilize additional funding opportunities for NI to carry out additional work in MNHN and FF in Ethiopia.
· Document and share with the A and C team field stories and lessons learned from MNHN and FF projects.
3.4 Research and Evaluation
· Support the SPO to build and maintain good collaborative relations with FMoH, regional Health Bureaus, other government agencies, UN agencies, and NGOs, as appropriate to promote information sharing and effective coordination of effort to improve and sustain effective and efficient MNHN and FF projects.
· Prepare materials for, organize, document and follow up team meetings and conference calls as required in support of both internal team work and communications with NI’s external partners.
· Participate in national and regional fora relevant to FF and MNHN interventions as required.
· Keep up to date with developments in Child health and micronutrient supplementation issues.
· Support partner field visits, including logistics/travel, meeting schedules, etc
· Any other related duties.

4. Education/Professional Designations/Experience:
Education
· Masters degree from a recognized university in Public Health, Child Health, Nutrition, Community Health and related fields.
· Training in Epidemiology and Research methodologies desirable.
Experience
· At least 3 years experience working Maternal and child nutrition programs, FF, and/or Public health related field.
· Experience in supporting FF and/or Child health programs.
· Experience with micronutrient supplementation programs for children desirable.
· Experience working with an international non-profit organization desirable.
· Experience in program/project implementation monitoring and evaluation, logistics desirable.

7. Travel Requirements
Based in Ethiopia around 25-30% of time will be spent travelling in Ethiopia with occasional travel outside Ethiopia.
