Established in 2009, UNOPS Ethiopia Office has been providing services to various partners, including the government of Ethiopia, UN agencies such as WHO, UNHCR and WFP, and other international organizations. In 2014, the UNOPS Executive Director decided to establish the UNOPS Ethiopia Multi Country Office(EMCO), which manages and coordinates the UNOPS activities in Ethiopia, Sudan and Djibouti.

UNOPS EMCO activities range from tailor-made administration, operations, human resources and logistics support for implementation of development and humanitarian projects; infrastructure and procurement management services; and advisory services to partners to facilitate effective procurement, supply and financial management.
The intern will work in the Partnership and Communication unit under the direct, overall supervision of Partnership and Communication Team Leader and will assist in producing a range of print, online publications and visibility items.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Writing news stories, newsletters, fact sheets;
  • Supporting any media relation activity;
  • Liaising with Ethiopia Operational Hub and country office focal points and project managers to secure information and images for communications materials;
  • Assisting with the distribution of communications products;
  • General administration and support;
  • Reporting to and perform other duties as requested by the communication focal point.
  • Assist with coordination and organization of internal and external events. Participate at meetings and events, as required.
  • Designing graphics with drafting a range of visual materials, including banners and flyers using Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe indesign

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Developmental Studies, Social Studies, IT, or other relevant fields. Masters Degree in the fields is an advantage.
  • Certification in graphic design using Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe in-design is required.

Language

  • Fluency in written and oral English is required.

Experience

  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Applicants should have graduated from the above stated fields within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship.
