Position Summary:

The Communication/Dissemination Specialist will be responsible for the production of educational materials (printed and electronic) used in ICAP’s proposed project, Evaluation of HIV/AIDS Incidence in Small Scale and Artisanal Mining Areas and Surrounding Communities and Implementation of Awareness-Raising Activities, Training, Prevention, and Mitigation of the Epidemic Impacts in Mozambique. The Communication Specialist will be responsible for conducting campaigns of prevention and mitigation of HIV/AIDS by using appropriate language for each target group and will be responsible for the development of materials that document the successes and lessons learned of the project.

The position is contingent upon availability of grant funding

Major Accountabilities:

  • Develops communication strategies, including traditional and digital media, and produces printed and electronic educational materials.
  • Leads an effective media engagement strategy, including writing and distributing press releases, feature articles, opinion pieces, and similar materials.
  • Creates and implements campaigns of prevention and mitigation of HIV/AIDS and adapts messages to the local context and ensure translation into local languages.
  • Coordinates and ensures implementation of project and survey communication strategy, including communications at the national, provincial, district, and community levels.
  • Ensures compliance with established branding strategy, correct logo placement, and donor and partner recognition on all communications.
  • Works with local stakeholders to develop, write, layout, produce and distribute a range of key communications materials.
  • Informs and coordinates community mobilization activities by working with local implementing partners and other local stakeholders to:
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and tools for community entry procedures, community-level sensitization, survey team feedback, and responses to community reactions.
  • Ensure the implementation of community entry procedures and community sensitization via local institutions.
  • Manage and respond to community-level reactions.
  • Creates lessons learned materials at the conclusion of the projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • A degree in communication, social studies, development studies, or related studies.

Experience, Skills, and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in projects assessing the incidence of HIV/AIDS.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing projects for prevention and mitigation of HIV/AIDS, related policies, strategies, and program development, including targeted interventions, specifically for vulnerable groups.
  • At least five years of experience in work related to communication in awareness-raising campaigns in HIV/AIDS is required.
