  1. Objectives of the Baseline study

The study intends to identify, analyze and recommend feasible Income Generating Activities (IGAs) for
WSOL project beneficiaries.

3.1. Geographical scope of the study
D4A Flower project and WSOL initiative is being implemented in Ziway town with 4 beneficiary farms, (i.e.
Ziway Roses, AQ Roses, Herburg Roses and Sher Ethiopia), in Koka area with one beneficiary (Dummen
Orange) and Bishoftu town with one beneficiary farm (Yassin Legesse Flower farm) in Ethiopia.

  1. Deliverables

A) Comprehensive report on feasible Income Generating Activities (IGAs) for target flower farm workers –
majority who are women while taking a mandatory consideration of inclusion for vulnerable groups e.g.
workers living with various forms of disabilities, youth, elderly etc. Within the defined geographical areas.
B) Valid Recommendations of Income Generating Activities (IGAs) for the trainees including a cost-benefit
analysis and business plan.
C) A list of potential stakeholders that could support further any or both IGAs for scale-up.

  1. Roles and responsibilities of the consultant team

A). Engaging the 32 trainees in focus group discussion and in depth one on one interview towards identifying at least
two most feasible IGAs and completing a cost benefit analysis and business plan for each.
B). Engaging each flower farm beneficiary management and pertinent stakeholders in data collection process.
C). Engaging local government and small scale enterprises in Ziway, Koka and Bishoftu in collection of relevant data.
D). Analyzing, compiling and presenting a comprehensive study on Income Generating Activities (IGAs) for the
defined area and scope.

The consultant/research firm is kindly invited to submit a detailed technical and financial proposal. The study
should adopt a mixed methods approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative methods for triangulation of
data. It will also ensure that data collected can be communicated, explained and contextualized. It is expected
that the research team will combine in-depth interviews and focus-group discussions with trainees, key
stakeholders and the farm management.
