We are currently seeking candidates for design research and prototyping in Mozambique.
The Human Centered Design Consultant (HCD Consultant) will work under direct supervision of the Country Representative and in close collaboration with the Director of Marketing and other Project Managers throughout the organization. The HCD Consultant will be responsible for anchoring the introduction of a new health service in user insights and inspirations refined through the ideation and prototyping process so that the intervention will deliver maximum health impact. He/She will play a key role in ensuring that PSI staff are increasingly exposed to HCD tools and processes to ensure users are kept at the center of our organizational processes. With an eye towards continuous innovation and improvement, the HCD Consultant will drive application of the user perspective and foster open and fresh thinking.

Your contribution
Strategic leadership role:
- Provide strategic leadership on human centered design thinking with attention to user insights and inspirations, and developing these ideas through ideation and prototyping, particularly as they pertain to the introduction of safe abortion services.
Engagement Design, Development and Implementation:
- Review and adapt draft tools (discussion guides), methods and methodology to maximize insights and inspiration gathering from all relevant target groups;
- Lead the ideation and prototyping process to uncover and further distill insights and prototype intervention opportunities;
- Discover actionable safe abortion behavior change communication recommendations based on user insights, national health context, and PSI strategic and programmatic priorities;
Team & Organizational Development:
- Design and conduct internal trainings for PSI staff;
- Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to PSI staff;
What are we looking for?
The HCD Consultant should have strong qualitative and analytical abilities and a passion for improving the user experience. We'd like to see someone with 3-5 years of experience leading and applying design research/user experience techniques, preferably within Mozambique or Africa. Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams while inspiring and motivating them to explore new perspectives are essential. A strong communicator, verbally and visually, that can simplify complex ideas into compelling summaries. Portuguese language skills are mandatory.
Timeline:
Work is expected to start in early 2018, with an anticipated completion date of 1 April 2018.
Expected Output:
- Design and finalize all necessary tools.
- Conduct at least 6 insights/inspiration-gathering sessions in 3 provinces of Mozambique (Gaza, Sofala, Niassa)
- Lead insights synthesis & segmentation workshop post-inspiration and pre-ideation phase.
- Develop journey maps for all target groups based on insights and inspirations gathered
- Prototype and iterate behavior change communications interventions based on insights/inspirations
- Mentor key staff in HCD processes and tools
- Final report documenting all phases, including insights/inspirations gathered, and interventions prototyped and iterated and journey map(s)
- Develop system(s) and tools for soliciting and utilizing (operationalizing) continuous user insights
