The Direction of Development Action
JOB CONTEXT :
Under the umbrella of the Development Action, Handicap International has been operating in Mozambique since 1986. More recently, inclusive local development strategies have been designed and implemented to ensure access to services in a context of increasing suburban poverty. The combination of those actions and approaches in time have contributed to the emergence of national civil society actors capable to promote the rights of the most vulnerable groups, in particular those with disabilities. Mainstreaming efforts have led to the recognition of disability as a priority issue in national and local political agendas and concretely opened the doors of basic services and risk mitigation systems to the most deprived.
HI Mozambique has a new operational framework (2016-2020) with 3 strategic pillars:
1) Health; 2) Socio-economic inclusion; 3) Disaster risk reduction and emergency response preparedness.
Current projects are related to local inclusive development: a EU funded project aiming at strengthening social protection (2015-2019) and an inclusive education project funded by la Chaîne du Bonheur through HI Switerland “VISTA: offering future prospects to children with disabilities in Mozambique through inclusive education”. The project started in November 2016 and will end in October 2019. The donor also requested a strong child protection focus in this project.
Specific VISTA project context:
The project was prepared in several phases and is now operational and ready to start in Maputo and Matola periurban areas with 3 main results which can be summarized as:
