How can you make a difference?

You will have overall leadership for the policy dialogue with government and partners working on “HIV/AIDS” programmatic area, with a strong focus on PMTCT and treatment of paediatric AIDS. You will be the HIV/AIDS focal person for UNICEF, responsible for internal coordination of all the work done HIV/AIDS, as well as representing UNICEF in external fora, such as the UN joint working group on HIV/AIDS. You will therefore lead on HIV/AIDs policy dialogue, be responsible for programming in biomedical aspects of HIV/AIDS interventions, and expected to foster strong technical links in nutrition, MNCH, adolescents, and social protection programming.

As anadvocatefor every child you will have…

  • An Advanced university degree in public health, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology or other health related sciences.
  • A minimum of eight years years of professional experience in public HIV/AIDS planning and management and/or in relevant areas of health care, health emergency/humanitarian preparedness, at the international level some of which preferably in a developing country is required.
  • Relevant experience in HIV/AIDS programme/project development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an asset.
  • International and national work experience, as well as background/familiarity with Emergency situations.
  • Clinical training and experience strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in English required; Portuguese language skills preferred. The working language of the duty station, including government partners and other local partners with which the incumbent will actively engage is Portuguese. Based on experience at the duty station, fluency in Spanish or Italian facilitate an accelerated learning of Portuguese.
