The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) was established with the aim to contribute towards advancing Peace and Security in Africa. IPSS conducts academic programmes, research, and policy analysis on issues related to peace and security in Africa. The Africa Peace and Security Programme (APSP), a programme supported by GIZ, is a joint collaboration between IPSS and the African Union (AU). It was established with the aim to contribute towards enhancing the capacity of the Peace and Security Department (PSD) of the AU. The Research, Policy Analysis and Dialogues Department, under APSP, is engaged in knowledge generation in the field of peace and security in Africa through applied research in conflict prevention, management and resolution as well as in policy analysis of various peace and security frameworks of African Union Member States. The objective of this position is to support the policy dialogues team in establishing IPSS as a leading policy think-tank in Africa and worldwide. Support the department to systematically identify policy-related issues of significance to the African Union, international organizations, and the peace and security community in Africa.
- Support the department in conducting policy analysis and preparing policy documents on issues of significance to the peace and security community in Africa.
- Support the department in developing multiple formats (such as policy briefs, symposiums, op-eds) for sharing and delivering policy recommendations with pertinent members of the peace and security community in Africa.
- Manage the process of conducting policy briefs and lecture series on issues of significance to the peace and security community in Africa.
- Support the department’s efforts in writing funding proposals to conduct policy-focused projects related to peace and security in Africa.
- Coordinate the flow of information between the department and the Communications Unit of IPSS.
- Support the Tana Forum activities as instructed by the leadership of APSP and IPSS.
